54 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine BUSINESS SERVICES, CONSULTING AND HUMAN RESOURCES Initially interested in physics, George W. Roos earned a BS in physics from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, in 1953. He went on to serve as a physicist in the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington for the following year, propelling him to take his talents to the service. Joining the United States Navy, he served as the executive officer of the USS Phoebe until departing from the military in 1957. Desiring to delve into management, Mr. Roos was employed by General Dynamics Co. in Groton, Connecticut, in 1957, subsequently spending 35 fruitful years with the company. During his tenure with General Dynamics, he was a program manager of the Electric Boat Division, director of industrial relations and management engineering, director of resource management in Fort Worth, Texas, and director of integrated logistics support of the Convair Division in San Diego. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was vice president of human resources in the Convair Division for six years. From 1992 to 1993, he served as the general manager of Hughes Unmanned Strike Systems in San Diego. Contributing civically to his community and the world at large, Mr. Roos previously sat on the board of directors of the American Red Cross in San Diego from 1987 to 1993 and has been a volunteer for his local church. Notably, he is recognized for his extensive contributions in sending books to grade school children on Fanning Island in Kiribati in the Western Pacific. Noting that the students did not have enough books or textbooks to obtain a proper education, Mr. Roos sent hundreds of books from his local San Diego library, much to the gratitude of the Fanning Island community. Presently, Mr. Roos has maintained affiliation with the U.S. Naval Institute, the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, for whom he sat on the board of directors, and the University of San Diego, where he was chairman of the corporate associates executive committee. To attest to his success, he was the honored recipient of the A.A. Loftus Award from Iona College in 1974. GEORGE W. ROOS GENERAL MANAGER (RETIRED) Hughes Unmanned Strike Systems San Diego, CA
