66 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Interested in music from an early age, Paula Ruth Caplinger played in the Sacramento Symphony Brass Demonstration Group prior to attending college in the 1960s. Obtaining five music scholarships, she attended California State University, Sacramento, where she earned a BS in 1973. A certificated elementary school teacher in the State of California, she began serving as a traveling instrumental music teacher for the Sacramento Unified School District in 1973 until transitioning to the role of middle school instrumental music teacher in 1992. She remained in this role until her retirement in 2008. Outside of her teaching endeavors, Ms. Caplinger has been a trumpeter in the Jabberwocky Good Time Band since 2018. Notably, in her musical career, she played first trumpet for the Sacramento Valley Wind Ensemble from 1986 to 1991. Likewise, she also played the trumpet and French horn with the American River College Community Band and was previously involved in the Sacramento Symphony and the Sacramento Music Circus. To remain abreast of developments in education, Ms. Caplinger has maintained affiliation with numerous organizations. She is a delegate of the National Education Association and member of the California Teachers Association, for whom she also served on the advisory panel for legal services and Board of Directors. Additionally, she was a member of the Music Educators National Conference and the Sacramento City Teachers Association, who honored her with the Golden Apple Award in 1986. From 2002 to 2006, she sat on the policy board of the Consumer Federation of California as a CTA representative. Among the distinguishable highlights of her career, Ms. Caplinger cites playing backup in a band for Smokey Robinson to be a crowning achievement. She also played at the music circus alongside prominent musicians, including Liberace. In recognition of her success, she has also been highlighted in various editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
