TONG S upported by a BS in geology from the University of Illinois and MS in earth science from Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), William K. Tong is a noteworthy environmental scientist who has been serving the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) since 1991. He has also been earth science adjunct faculty at Oakton Community College since 1994. At the inception of his career in 1984, he was a technical assistant at NEIU for seven years. Driven to make the world a better place, Mr. Tong has been awarded a Silver Medal and four Bronze Medals by the EPA for exemplary work during his 29-year career. He worked for Clean Water Act enforcement for 15 years, and for underground injection control for the past 14 years. In 2017, he wrote a standard operating procedure for writing underground injection control permits, a three-year project that has served as a model across the EPA. In 2008, he received a Silver Medal as part of the team that settled a major enforcement case with the City of Indianapolis, resulting in wastewater treatment plant upgrades that prevented the annual release of a billion gallons of untreated sewage into the White River.
