288 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT B arbara Wilson Lang has excelled for 44 years as the senior residential administrator of The Clausen House in Oakland, California, a registered charitable 501(c)(3) institution that provides developmentally disabled adults with housing and wellness programs. Established in 1967, The Clausen House celebrates more than 50 years of support to approximately 200 adults with developmental disabilities, as well as support to their families in Oakland and the surrounding East Bay area. During their time spent at The Clausen House, the individuals are given opportunities to identify their goals and aspirations, eventually re-joining their community with a firmer grasp on the path of their own lives. As a residential administrator, Ms. Lang supervised staff and clients in the residential community setting. Concurrent to her role at The Clausen House, Ms. Lang is the chief executive officer of theWest Street Baptist Church in Oakland, a position she obtained in 1978. Recently celebrating her 40th year of service in 2018, she has always possessed an affinity for helping others help themselves, as well as contribute positively to her local community in governmental settings. Described by her colleagues as transparent, straightforward, patient and tolerant, Ms. Lang defines success as accomplishing one’s goals. Ms. Lang is the recipient of a BA in sociology and psychology from Jarvis Christian College from 1972. When she is not engaged with her primary passions and advocacy, she volunteers with the Special Olympics. Attributing her profound success to her innate love for others and willingness to help them through difficulties in their lives, she cites her church work to be a crowning achievement of her career. To attest to her success, Ms. Lang was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from Alameda Contra Costa. With a career filled with highlights, she notes that witnessing clients reach their goals is the most rewarding aspect of her work. She advises future field professionals to choose an industry in which they are most passionate, as well as develop short-termgoals andwork towards attaining long-termgoals.
