306 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine TECHNOLOGY D r. Robert F. “Terry” Bergeron Jr. is a distinguished software engineer and mathematician who has accrued more than 50 years of experience. Spending 26 years with Bell Laboratories, he excelled as a technical staff member from 1969 to 1972 before being promoted to a supervisor, a role he held for 12 years. Beginning in 1984, Dr. Bergeron was a technology manager prior to his departure from the company in 1995. He then spent the following five years as a consultant and senior manager for Cotelligent. Since 2001, he has been an independent industry consultant. Drawing upon a BS, summa cum laude, from Brown University, Dr. Bergeron also holds a PhD in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1969, where he spent time as a mathematics instructor and as a visiting scientist at the Laboratory for Computer Science. A patentee, he has also contributed articles to journals. While his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of working in the development of geographic data applications, which led to driving directions systems like MapQuest and Google Maps. He is also renowned for the development of UNIX- based operations support systems. Drawing upon a BS in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a PhD in mathematics from the Courant Institute, he commenced his career in 1969 as a research associate at New York University (NYU). Spending 1976 to 1980 with Bell Telephone Laboratories, he returned to NYU as an adjunct professor of computer science for one year before serving AT&T Bell Laboratories as a technical staff member and distinguished technical staff member until 1993. For the following 21 years, he was a research associate at AT&T Laboratories. Shortly thereafter, he joined Google as a research associate until his retirement in 2018. Among his notable highlights, Dr. Korn is renowned for developing UWIN, a Unix application for Windows. Recognized as a National Science Foundation fellow in 1968 and an AT&T Bell Laboratories fellow in 1986, he is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Furthermore, he maintains affiliation with the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society.
