64 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION P ossessing an inquisitive mind, Kathleen Casteel Blazar always enjoyed organizing details, aiding people and taking on research- driven challenges. Inspired by her aunt, who was a nursing administrator, Ms. Blazar desired to delve into the field of health sciences. Drawing upon a BA in French, with honors and distinction, fromPennsylvania State University from 1973, she subsequently received an MSLS from Case Western Reserve University in 1973, thereby jumpstarting her career in the library sciences. Following the receipt of her library degree, Ms. Blazar was hired by Case Western Reserve University as an adjunct faculty member and a school librarian for two years, while concurrently serving as an AV-reference librarian in health science from 1973 to 1980. Transitioning to a collection development librarian of health science in 1980, a role she held for 16 years, she then became chair of the Staff Advisory Council in 1996. From 1997 to 2008, she was a resources librarian in the health sciences, and from 2008 until her retirement in 2018, she was the assistant director turned interim director of health sciences. Ms. Blazar continues to maintain her role as a health science librarian today. Among the notable highlights of her career, Ms. Blazar is most proud of conducting excellent research in medical literature using Medline, supported by her advanced training at the National Library of Medicine. Possessing knowledge of both French and Italian languages, she has also utilized her fluency in her librarianship roles. Notably, Ms. Blazar received the Technology Improvement Award from the National Networks of Library Medicine in 2006. A member of the Penn State Alumni Association, Ms. Blazar also affiliates herself with the Porsche Club of America and Corvette Club of America. Post-retirement, she has enjoyed such avocational endeavors as crocheting, knitting, reading, gardening and restoring carousel horses. In addition, she has enjoyed volunteering at her local public library in her spare time. To attest to her legacy, Ms. Blazar has also been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
