80 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION She served as research professor and director of the international post-secondary development from 2006 to 2008. She served as provost of the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College from 1990 to 2002. Between 1974 and 1990, she was an associate professor at Tidewater Community College and vice chancellor of the Southern Arkansas University of Technology from 1980 to 1989. Dr. Kettlewell received a BA from Muskingum College and an MA from Old Dominion University. She achieved an EdD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1985. She com- menced her career as the county librarian for the Knox County Library in Ohio in 1961 before serv- ing as a teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools and Portsmouth. She has received many Com- munity Service Awards in Portsmouth, and was named the 1998 Person of the Year by the Manas- sas Journal Messenger. She is an author, musician (piano and organ) and community activist. A former global development education professional, Dr. Gail Ellen Biery Kettlewell is backed by five decades of experience in education. In her career, she took part in the Montenegro Project sponsored by the U.S. Department of State from 2004 to 2007 as the University of Montenegro prepared for its entrance into the European Union and for an increase in partnerships with business and industry throughout the country. Additionally, she worked with the University of Campinas in Brazil to expand partnerships among local businesses and the community. From2005 to 2011, she led the SierraLeoneProject as it culminated the strategic plan for the development of a community college system. The Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone and the 50th Independence Anniversary planning committee in North America presented The Ambassador’s Special Award to Dr. Gail B. Kettlewell in recognition of tireless efforts to the development of Sierra Leone, particularly in the community education sector, in 2011. Dr. Kettlewell served George Mason University as principal of the International Center for the Arts, Culture and Education from 2008 to 2012. DR.
