She is certified in elementary education, behavioral disorders, the learning disabled, the developmentally disabled, counseling and adaptive physical education. Since 1998, Ms. Gonder has excelled nationally and internationally as an author, editor, exhibitor, presenter and feature speaker for Osage Bend Publishing Company. Previously, she spent 16 years as an adjunct professor with Lincoln University’s special education graduate program, as well as a director of consulting services from 1990 to 2004. Ms. Gonder was a collaborative teacher with the Class-Within-a- Class Inclusion Program at Jefferson City Public Schools between 1968 and 1997 and a consultant for special education programming for families, schools and community resources between 1996 and 2010. Teaching within the Jefferson City Public School System for nearly 30 years, she also served as a diagnostician for Metro Business College, psychological examiner for disability determinations for the Missouri State Department of Education and instructor at the University of Missouri Mental Health Center. Ms. Gonder has maintained affiliation with the Missouri Council for Exceptional Children, for whom she served as legislative chair, secretary- treasurer, president of the learning disabilities subdivision, president of the State Federation and non-registered lobbyist. She has also co- authored and edited 21 children’s and adult books, professional articles and educational materials. Ms. Gonder was named 1991 Missouri State Special Education Teacher of the Year by the Missouri Federation Council for Exceptional Children and 1992 International Special Education Teacher of the Year. She holds a BS in education and an MEd in special education from the University of Missouri, and an MEd in counseling from Lincoln University. A n advocate for individuals with learning disabilities, Sharon J. Hagan Gonder sought to develop more appropriate and positive educational programs for the disabled.
