84 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION J oining Elgin Community College in Illinois in 1979, Susan Nelis Moylan first served the college as a part-time government training coordinator on a three-year grant. Upon the expiration of the grant, she had worked successfully with local government training, in which she developed training programs for local governments within Illinois. Subsequently, she was transferred to the Business and Industry Training Center at the college, where she notably served as director for 25 years between 1979 and 2004. During her tenure as director, she oversaw a staff of seven individuals. Concurrent to her academic endeavors, Ms. Moylan also served two terms on the Elgin City Council as a councilwoman in the 1980s and 1990s, along with nearly three terms on the Gail Borden Public Library District Board in the 2000s and 2010s. Described as a collaborative leader, she has also held executive-level positions with myriad organizations, such as the United Way of Elgin, for whom she has served as president since 1990. Likewise, she is a past president and current member of Rotary International. Notably, Ms. Moylan served as president of the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation from 1993 to 1995 and of the Dukane Council in Geneva, Illinois, from 1989 to 1993. She is a past member of the ethics committee of St. Joseph Hospital and also sat on the board of directors of the St. Edward High School Foundation between 1986 and 1993. Ms. Moylan also chaired the Women’s Council for the Elgin Chamber of Commerce in the mid-1980s. Following this tenure, she received the Political Leader of the Year Award from the Association for Individual Development in 1988. She defines success as leading groups forward into the future by utilizing new technologies and mechanisms to aid further within one’s community, particularly in the integration of methods that workedpreviously. Ms. Moylan was the recipient of a BS from Loyola University Chicago and an MA from Northern Illinois University. Married to the late William Moylan Jr. for 54 years, she has four children and 11 grandchildren. She emphasizes that her family has been integral to her personal and professional development.
