Dr. Cavinato earned the Shipman Gold Medal in 2012, an accolade awarded to an individual who has contributed most to the field of supply management. He also received Outstanding Teaching Awards from Pennsylvania State University and was named National TransportationMan of the Year by Delta Nu Alpha in 1977. Dr. Cavinato is backed by a BSBA and an MBA from American University. He obtained a PhD from Pennsylvania State University in 1975. W ith over 45 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Joseph Louis Cavinato is a noteworthy business educator who has been recognized as professor emeritus at Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management. Serving as a distinguished professor for one decade, he previously dedicated himself to myriad other institutions in both business and academia. He is a former senior vice president of the Institute for Supply Management and served Pennsylvania State University as an associate professor between 1978 and 1999. Earlier, he was an assistant professor at the University of Georgia. In the former stages of his career, Dr. Cavinato was a distribution manager for Marketing Publications in Washington, D.C. and a distribution systems analyst for the Chessie Rail Road in Baltimore. He began his career in 1966 as an analyst for the Transportation Association of America in Washington. In addition, Dr. Cavinato has served as a consultant for General Electric, Arthur D. Little, Lockheed Martin, Unilever and EDS Corporation.
