164 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY C ommissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1978, Bijoy Kumar Mahanti advanced through the grades to Lieutenant Colonel, serving as an Army Nurse for 22 years. At the inception of his career in 1978, he was an Assistant Head Nurse in the Surgical ICU at the Letterman Army Medical Center. Subsequently, he traveled across the U.S. and abroad to Germany to excel in nursing-related roles of increasing responsibility. Retiring in 2012, Mr. Mahanti most recently flourished as a Risk Manager and Performance Improvement Coordinator at the VA Maryland Health Care System for three years, originally joining the institution in 2000. Drawing upon a BS from Andrews University and MS degrees from the University of San Francisco and Indiana University, Mr. Mahanti also taught at Monterey Peninsula College and Midwestern State University. Additionally, he has been a presenter in the field and a technical expert in deployable medical systems. Mr. Mahanti is a Certified Nurse Executive and has earned myriad accolades from the U.S. Army for his service. His awards include a Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals and three Army Achievement Medals. Earlier, she was an executive assistant to the chief executive officer of BMG Entertainment. While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Matty cites speaking before the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C., regarding the September 11th terrorist attacks to be a crowning moment. A speaker of nine languages, she is also an author and natural humanitarian, dedicating her life to serving others and bringing about peace. Alongside her professional ventures, she is an accomplished painter, having been commissioned by several international government officials and winning numerous accolades.
