Demonstrating versatility within his profession, he lectures across the country on various ophthalmologic-related subjects, such as cataract surgery, intraocular lens implantation and eye disease complications management. Likewise, he has authored or co-authored papers and textbook chapters, presented posters at symposia and conferences, and performed oral speaking engagements at universities and research forums. Dr. Swarup has earned Second Place at the 1990 Howard University Medical Student Research Competition and 1990 Ophthalmology Residents Day Symposium at Howard University Hospital, as well as Third Place at the 1990 American Medical Association’s Eastern Student Research Forum. E xcelling as the staff physician and partner of Albemarle Eye Center PLLC in Elizabeth City, North Carolina since 1995, Dr. Jitendra Swarup is renowned as a premier cataract surgeon throughout the nation, having performed more than 30,000 cataract surgeries. Specializing in therapeutic and cosmetic plastic surgery, glaucoma surgery, laser surgery for diabetic eye disease and micro-incision cataract surgery, he has been performing LASIK eye surgery since its introduction in 1996. Notably, he is the only physician in his region to offer mono and multifocal implants. Dr. Swarup received his MD, with honors, from the Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., in 1989. Upon completing an internship at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, he received ophthalmology training at the Sinai Hospital in Detroit, where he later served as a chief resident. Today, Dr. Swarup is licensed to practice in Virginia and North Carolina and is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
