207 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS A ccruing over 40 years of experience in health care, Dr. Joseph E. Trader served as an orthopedic surgeon with Orthopedic Associates of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. After joining in 1978, he excelled as president between 2001 and 2011, when he retired. He also excelled at the Holy Family Memorial Medical Center as chief of staff, chief of surgery, and member of the ethics, executive and institutional review committees. He entered the field as an emergency room physician for St. Joseph’s Hospitals. In his youth, Dr. Trader was afflicted with allergies. Though his parents offered support, it was the attending physicians who inspired him to become a doctor. He soonmatriculated at the Medical College of Wisconsin, obtaining an MD in 1971. He served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy between 1976 and 1978 and remained active as a reservist until 1982. He drew great satisfaction from establishing a countywide paramedical program, which he directed in the 1980s. Dr. Trader has earned distinction for serving as principal author in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has also earned recognition as a Walter Zeit Fellow of the Medical College of Wisconsin, Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary, and member of the Shands Circle Society of the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. Affiliated with the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Medical Association and Midwest Orthopedic Society, Dr. Trader has served as a cantor with the St. Francis Assisi Parish, where he was also a men’s choir member and served on the board of directors. He was a county delegate to the Wisconsin Medical Society and is a former board director and trustee of the Charitable Science and Education Foundation. Since retirement, he has led the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra board as president. He served the Wisconsin Maritime Museum as member and president of the board of directors. As a charter member of the National WWII Museum, Dr. Trader attended the 70th and 75th memorial anniversaries of the Normandy invasion to pay tribute to veterans of World War II, including his late father.
