210 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS until his retirement in 2014, he was a professor of pharmacy and dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy. Alongside his primary pursuits, Dr. Yanchickwas an advisory board member of the National Asso- ciation of Chain Drug Stores and was the director of the Oklahoma Poison Center in Oklahoma City. Furthermore, he was a consultant for the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Throughout his illustrious career, he has maintained affiliation with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacies, where he previously served as president and chair of the Council of Deans. Dr. Yanchick has been honored with myriad accolades.Notably, theUniversityof Iowabestowed upon him a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1998 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Furthermore, he won the Alumni Association Award from the University of Oklahoma in 1989 and was honored with a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Purdue University in 1995. D esiring to work in the medical field, Dr. Victor A. Yanchick was encouraged to attend pharmacy school by a friend and he quickly found his niche in the health care industry. Receiving a BS and MS in pharmacy from the University of Iowa in 1962 and 1966, respectively, he subsequently earned a PhD in pharmacy from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1968. While pursuing his graduate studies, Dr. Yanchick served as an assistant chief pharmacist at Silver Cross Hospital for two years. Thereafter, he was a hospital pharmacy resident at University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, for an additional two years before serving Purdue University as a clinical pharmacy instructor until 1968. For the following 16 years, Dr. Yanchick was a facultymember at theUniversity of Texas at Austin, first serving as an assistant professor of pharmacy, then associate professor and full professor. He was also an acting assistant dean, assistant dean of academic affairs and associate dean prior to his departure from the university in 1984. From 1985 to 1996, he worked for the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy as dean, and from 1996 VICTOR A.
