212 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS D rawing upon more than 50 years of experience in nursing and academia, Barbara Jean Lauritsen Christensen is an educator of nursing and co-editor of a national nursing textbook who has since retired from her activities in 2008. Formerly teaching at Mid- Plains Community College for 36 years, Ms. Christensen also taught pediatrics at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, and St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a clinical nurse, she specialized in medical surgical nursing at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center from 1991 to 2002. Notably, former Governor Benjamin Nelson appointedMs. Christensen as a nurse representative for the Nebraska Board of Health from 1991 to 1994. In addition to her many achievements, she was the co-editor of the nationally acclaimed nursing textbook “Foundations and Adult Health Nursing,” published by Mosby-Elsevier between 1991 and 2011. Drawing upon a BS and an MS from the University of Nebraska, Ms. Christensen is a certified registered nurse and earned her educational diploma from St. Joseph’s Mercy School of Nursing in 1956. To attest to her success, she was twice honored with Woman of Achievement Awards for Education in 1998 and 2016. After receiving a nursing diploma in 1960, he served as a charge nurse at Presbyterian Hospital and supervisor at Gracie Square Hospital. Earning a BS in pre-medical studies and an MA in education from Columbia University in 1962 and 1963, respectively, he became chair of medical/surgical nursing at St. Catherine’s Hospital School, a position he held for three years. While teaching special education at the New York City Public Schools between 1966 and 1970, he earned an MA in family life and sex counseling at New York University (NYU). He later obtained an EdD in gerontology from NYU in 1979. Dr. Davis joined Hunter College within the City University of New York System in 1970, teaching as a full professor for 27 years until attaining emeritus status in 1997. Throughout his career, he has lectured nationally and internationally on age-related issues. To attest to his success, he received a 1989 Excellence in Leadership Award from the Brookdale Center on Aging and a 1987 Research Award from the City University of New York.
