Reflecting on his three decades of career success, he cites his grandmother was a nurse in World War I, leading him to wonder if the medical field was his destiny. However, he realized he was not fit for medicine. Upon passing the bar exam, he accompanied his grandmother on a trip to visit family in London, where he discoveredmany of his family members were lawyers. If he had not pursued the field, he would have broken the chain. U pon earning a BA from Vassar College in 1977, Gary Maitland, Esq., went on to obtain a JD from Boston University in 1978. Shortly thereafter, he was admitted to practice in the State of New York, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, U.S. Tax Court, and U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. In 1978, Mr. Maitland took on his first legal role as assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, New York, remaining until 1987. By learning about state court strategies, he gained invaluable experience in helping his clients defend against charges and sentences assigned by those courts when he began his own criminal defense practice in 1981. Since 1987, Mr. Maitland has excelled as a founding partner of Kreisberg &Maitland, LLP, in New York City. For 33 years, he has successfully handled hundreds of cases involving labor arbitration, police misconduct and a broad range of contract and business disputes.
