At the inception of his career, he served as a volunteer firefighter before becoming captain, a role he held for two years. For the following 29 years, he was a paid firefighter before his official retirement. Following this venture, Mr. Andrea engaged himself in the boating community and started volunteering with the New Haven Sail and Power Squadron in 2000. Beginning his tenure as a safety officer, he rose through the ranks and obtained district-level positions, such as assistant administrative officer. From there, he began attending national meetings. Since 2010, he has served the New Haven Sail and Power Squadron as an education officer. From a young age, Mr. Andrea was frequently surrounded by water activities as he often visited his local beach and enjoyed boating with his friends and family. Civically involved in his community, today he is a trustee of the Branford Yacht Club and is involved with several other boating organizations within his region. Likewise, he sits on the board of directors of the volunteer firehouse and is a donor to Disabled Veterans of America. He also contributed his time to Take a Vet Fishing, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. Attributing his success to his ability to learn from others, Mr. Andrea notes that the highlight of his career has been his involvement in various organizations at the Power Squadron. As a testament to his success, he was honored with an Award for Class Instruction at the District Level in 2019. He is also certified as a safe boating instructor and previously took undergraduate courses in firefighting and the sciences. Married with four children and two grandsons, Mr. Andrea intends to watch his two grandsons graduate from high school in five years’ time.
