290 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT G eorge Raymond Lewis desired to help people from an early age, particularly adolescents who were dealing with abuse and neglect. Earning a BA from the University of New Mexico in 1966, he decided to delve into social work and obtained an MSW from the Our Lady of the Lake College in 1971. He was certified through the Academy of Certified Social Workers in 1973, and as his career blossomed, he was licensed as an LCSW in the State of NewMexico in 1990. Since 1992, Mr. Lewis has been the clinical director of Assurance Home, Inc., in Roswell, New Mexico. Prior to this endeavor, he served the New Mexico Health and Social Services Department in myriad capacities, such as a district operations manager from 1984 to 1992, social worker consultant from 1975 to 1984, field office manager from 1973 to 1975 and district training officer from 1972 to 1973. He joined the department in 1971. Congruent to his role at Assurance Home, Mr. Lewis has overseen and supervised MSW interns at New Mexico Highlands University since 1998 and was a supervisor of field placement MSW interns at Western New Mexico University in 2020. Likewise, he excelled as an adjunct instructor at New Mexico State University between 1971 and 1995, as well as at Eastern New Mexico University between 1973 and 1976 and again in 1992. From 1988 to 1996, he was a member of the New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners and previously served as a volunteer coordinator for the Alzheimer Association. Mr. Lewis has maintained membership with the National Center for Crisis Management since 2009 and EMBDRIA International since 2015. He is also affiliated with the National Association of Social Workers, who honored him with the New Mexico Rose Praisner Award in 1992. Named an Outstanding Young Man of America by the U.S. Jaycees in 1978 and 1981, he earned the Caring Employee of the Year Award from the United Way in 2004. While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Lewis cites working with other social workers in New Mexico to be a crowning achievement.
