He earned a Master of Divinity from the Notre Dame Seminary Graduate School of Theology in 1996, and went on to serve as an associate pastor at St. Rita Parish in Alexandria, Louisiana, from 1996 to 1997. Additionally, he served in the same capacity for Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Tioga, Louisiana, from 1997 to 2000. Since the turn of the century, Father Brandow has excelled as a clinical chaplain for the Alexandria VA Healthcare System. Ordained to ministry by the Catholic Church in 1996, he has also lent his considerable expertise to the Continuing Formation of Clergy as a committee member since 1996. Previously, he was a chaplain for the Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and Central Louisiana State Hospital with the Louisiana State Department of Health. Earlier in his career in ministry services, he was a secretary for the Diocese of Alexandria. In addition to his primary duties, Father Brandow has sat on the community advisory board with the Louisiana Purchase Council of the Boy Scouts of America since 2003, and has been a member of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting since 1997. Notably, the National Catholic Committee on Scouting gave him a Bronze Pelican Award in 2003, having previously received a Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 2002. Furthermore, Father Brandow previously served on the board of directors of the Council of Central Louisiana of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. To remain abreast of changes in his field, Father Brandow maintains affiliation with the American Association of Christian Counselors, the National Conference of Veterans Affairs Catholic Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and the Louisiana Chaplains Association. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in social work from Northwestern University in 1985, Father Stephen J. Brandow began his career as a social worker at Woodview Regional Hospital in Pineville, Louisiana.
