114 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Dr. Douglas D. Alder received a BA and MA from the University of Utah in 1957 and 1959, respectively. In light of his exceptional feats, he received a fellowship from the University of Oregon to complete doctoral studies and attended the University of Vienna in Austria on a Fulbright scholarship to complete his dissertation. In 1966, he earned a PhD from the University of Oregon and was hired by Utah State University. Escalating from instructor to assistant and associate professor between 1963 and 1970, he went on to serve as a full professor of history between 1970 and 1986. He concurrently served as director of the honors program, associate director for instructional development and director of the fellowship program. From 1986 to 1993, he was president of Dixie College. Following a three-year civic appointment, he returned as an adjunct history professor until 2006. He is currently teaching Utah and Washington County history to retirees in the Institute for Continued Learning. Dr. Alder has contributed myriad articles to publications and authored several books. He received the 1991 Governor’s Award in Humanities from the State of Utah and a 1981 Outstanding Faculty Award from Utah State University. PROFESSOR OF HISTORY, HISTORIAN (RETIRED) Dixie College Saint George, UT Supported by 45 years of expertise in history education, Dr. Albert I. Berger retired in 2019 as a professor and historian at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where he began in 1987. Earlier in his career, he excelled in several academic roles for the University of Maryland University College, the University of Montana, Antelope Valley College and Chapman College beginning in 1974. Throughout his career, Dr. Berger has authored myriad books, most recently “Life and Times of the Atomic Bomb: Nuclear Weapons and the Transformation of Warfare” in 2016. He has two more books in progress. Dr. Berger holds a BA from Cornell University and an MA and PhD from Northern Illinois University. Notably, he received the J. Lloyd Eaton Prize for his book “The Magic That Works: John W. Campbell and the American Response to Technology” in 1995. Between 1997 and 1998, he was also named a Larry Remele Memorial Fellow from Humanities North Dakota. Dr. Berger maintains membership with the ACLU, the National Education Association, the Society for Military History, the Organization of American Historians and the American Historical Association.
