In 2017, he started his own firm, Grant Smith’s Comfy Chair, where he excelled as a freelancewriter and creative director. In 2019, he was offered the position of chief creative officer at Yamamoto in Minneapolis. Mr. Smith is especially proud of his work that became part of a pop culture, especially with AT&T and FedEx. Believing in the importance of having passion for your industry, he notes that “great work gets great results,” and he has found his professional niche. He maintains many professional affiliations, and in his spare time, he supports such organizations as Feeding America, the American Civil Liberties Union and the League of Pretentious Copywriters. As a testament to success, Mr. Smith has accrued a number of honors, including top awards from Cannes, Clio’s, Effies, AICP, The One Show, The Art Directors Club and DA&D. Interested in art from a young age, Grant Smith pursued a career in the arts. He received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and fine art from Southwestern University in 1990, followed by an MFA in studio arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. Surprised to discover that the arts were not a lucrative career choice, he was prompted to enter advertising, and began serving as a copywriter for Cliff Freeman & Partners in 1999, where he worked on Fox Sports, Budget Car Rental and Hollywood Video. Remaining in that position until 2004, he subsequently served at BBDO New York as a writer and associate creative director for five years, working on Direct TV, FedEx, Red Stripe and Guinness beers, and Monster.com. In the following years, he founded Handsome Advertising Partnership, working directly with some of the nation’s best advertising agencies to develop more creatively robust work. Rejoining BBDO in 2011, Mr. Smith served as senior creative director and the lead creative on AT&T. At the inception of his career in 1960, Mr. Baker was a draftsman and designer for Sir Basil Spence in London, England, for one year. Relocating to New York City, he served Rogers & Butler as a project architect and project manager between 1962 and 1964 before being hired by John A. Pruyn as a project architect from 1965 to 1966. Establishing his own private practice in 1967, holding the practice until 1968 and again from 1975 to 1979, Mr. Baker also served as a partner of Manice & Baker between 1968 and 1974. Moving to Katonah, New York, he developed a second private practice specializing in residential design in 1979, maintaining the practice until 2005. He has also served as principal of John Milnes Baker, AIA, since 1968. Throughout his career, Mr. Baker has authored numerous publications, including “American House Styles: A Concise Guide, Revised and Expanded Edition” in 2018 and “How to Build a House with an Architect” in 1977, which was a defining moment of his career. Impressively, his home designs have been featured in Better Homes & Garden’s Top 10 Home Plans, including as their #1 favorite design in 1982. Three of his designs were further selected by the U.S. Information Agency for Design USA, a traveling exhibit in the former Soviet Union from 1989 to 1990. Aligning himself with the American Institute of Architects, the Society of Architectural Historians and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, Mr. Baker has been married to his wife Elizabeth since 1970. He is the proud father of four children and grandfather of eight grandchildren. Growing up on a small farm, John Milnes Baker always had an affinity for architecture, and notably spent time as a child building huts. Completing one year of neuro-linguistic therapy, timeline therapy and hypnotherapy thus far, she would ultimately like to help people with depression and anger problems to become the best versions of themselves. She lives by the motto, “Life your life to the fullest because you never know when it can be your last day.” Gisele Chiquito-Leon was inspired to enter real estate following the dissolution of her initial pursuit of the aviation industry. Involved in property management at the inception of her career, she realized she truly belonged in the real estate field, particularly after seeing investors who came from other countries overcome their struggles and give back to their communities. Later on, she served as a manager of an apartment complex, finance manager of a car business and mortgage lender for JP Morgan Chase. Her first foray into real estate was with C and G Realty. Since 2004, she has excelled as the chief executive officer of Gisele Leon Realty, Inc., located in Ontario, California. For several years, Ms. Chiquito-Leon’s agency was named to Top Sales by a Mortgage Company in recognition of her success in the industry. She attributes her success to her love for helping others. In the present day, Mr. Collopy has excelled as the owner, founder and broker of RE/MAX Results in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He is also the noted founder of the Results Foundation. Attributing his immense success to his passion for the industry, he is especially proud of helping several sales executives become successful in real estate in their own right. Additionally, he is proud of the amount of houses he has sold over the past years; in 2020, he and his company sold nearly 25,000 homes. Driven by the motto, “Live life one day at a time,” Mr. Collopy holds an associate degree from an accredited academic institution. Demonstrating versatility in his profession, he is the author of the book “The Reward of Knowing,” and further lends his expertise as a public speaker in his field. Spending his spare time contributing to charitable efforts through the Results Foundation, he is currently working on writing and publishing a second book. Working with the lumberyard for 15 years, during which time his final five years were in outside sales, he subsequently moved on to work for Koehn Construction for an additional 14 years. There, the owner of the construction company took Mr. Giesel under his wing and taught him the significance of seeing the long range of a project. Over time, Mr. Giesel sought to open his own business, and Tony Giesel Construction came to fruition. Now serving as owner for more than 11 years, he has been renowned throughout Kansas for his work. In his daily work, Mr. Giesel oversees the day-to-day operations, including the bidding, bookwork and selling of product. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, he is especially proud of remaining in business. He finds the most rewarding aspect of his profession is the confidence that his customers and homeowners have in him. Over the years, he has attributed his success to doing right by his customers. He defines success as putting in a hard day’s work, knowing that he treated his customers well. A member of the Wichita Area Builders Association, Mr. Giesel has always considered himself a “people person,” and he has thoroughly enjoyed meeting new customers and homeowners, as well as putting together new projects. Surpassing his own expectations, he finds it remarkable that he has been able to establish his own business, and is proud of the strides he has made over the past decade. Gunn is a noteworthy construction management executive who notably gained his license at the age of 25. From an early age, he engaged himself in various, at-home construction projects, including building a dog kennel at the age of 8. When Mr. Gunn was 13 years old, a house fire left much of his childhood home damaged by smoke, and he and his family rehabilitated the home while adding a 2,000-foot addition. From this point forward, he was enthralled with the construction industry. Although construction was in the back of his mind, Mr. Gunn pursued a formal education at the University of California Riverside, where he studied biology for two years with the hopes of becoming a veterinarian. However, during his collegiate studies, a natural progression of events led him back to the construction business, and he began working with another independent contractor. Upon receiving his license, Mr. Gunn has made a name for himself throughout the Riverside, California, area as a selfemployed business owner. Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Gunn has been a political activist for medical cannabis patients since 2008. Recognizing the importance of medical cannabis for the treatment of several disorders ranging from mild to severe, including mental health and physical health conditions, Mr. Gunn has exhibited a strong passion for his cause. Initially inspired by the work ethic of his own father, Mr. Gunn desired to emulate his drive, and subsequently developed a strong work ethic of his own. Looking toward the future, he intends to branch out more within his company and through community activism, noting that he would like to do more pro bono work. During his undergraduate studies, he completed pre-architecture courses; however, he felt more drawn to construction. In 1986, he graduated with a BA in construction management from Eastern Michigan University while simultaneously working with Freeman Darling, Inc., as a senior project manager, chief estimator and vice president from 1985 to 1996. During this time, Mr. Hiser also taught courses in construction management at his alma mater from 1988 to 1999. Since 1996, he has excelled as the president of Phoenix Contractors, Inc., in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Attributing his success to his wondrous mentors he has acquired along the way, Mr. Hiser considers himself a visionary with exemplary ideas, leading by example. He has always developed outstanding relationships with clients and architects, and during his 35-plus year long career, he has established connections with others, which is shown in the great fabric of employees who work for Phoenix Contractors. Mr. Hiser notes that it takes patience to look for good opportunities. In this sentiment, he has garnered significant patience and has been met with unmatched success. Mr. Hiser maintains affiliation with the American General Contractors Association, for whom he has served on their industrial relation and education committees. He has also been associated with the education committee of the Washtenaw Contractors Association and is a member of the Construction Association of Michigan and Better Business Bureau. He is a former member of the curricular advisory board at Eastern Michigan University. To attest to his success, Mr. Hiser won the Pyramid Award for “Best Project Team” from the Washtenaw Contractors Association on eight occasions, including for constructing the $5 million Ozone House Project in 2020 and the Metropolitan Detroit Animal Shelter in 2019. He has also been featured in a four-page article in Focus Magazine and won the Design and Construction Showcase Award. Emphasizing her love for community involvement, helping homebuyers find the right fit within their budget and aiding homeowners in selling their homes, Ms. Hotchkiss has excelled as a realtor and broker with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Chicago (previously Berkshire Hathaway Biros Real Estate) since 1983. In her role, she focuses her attention on real estate in Chicago, Illinois, as well as the southern and western suburbs. Drawing upon her natural passion for helping others in her community, Ms. Hotchkiss maintains affiliation with the Local Beverly Area Planning Association, as well as memberships with the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors and the Multi-Million Dollar Club. Attributing her immense success to her dedication to her field, honesty with her clients and empathy toward others, she has been rewarded with several accolades and honors.
