52 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Renate Strelau has excelled in her career due to her ability to think critically, but also creatively. She is a historical researcher and an artist who has been involved in galleries, exhibitions and shows for five decades in the United States, as well as in India. Ms. Strelau was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1951 to parents Werner Ernst and Gerda Gertrud (Bargel) Strelau. She immigrated to the United States in 1960. Ms. Strelau began her formal education in 1969 at the University of California Berkeley, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. She received a Master of Arts in 1985 in United States diplomatic history and a Master of Fine Arts in painting (human figure) in 1991 from American University in Washington, D.C. From 1976 to 1980, Ms. Strelau worked as a research assistant for the Iranian Embassy inWashington, D.C. She analyzed news and wrote features, which the embassy distributed globally. With nuclear options raised at the height of the Iranian Revolution, Ms. Strelau’s grasp of the fervor permitted her to counsel caution. Additionally, Ms. Strelau exhibited her art at onewoman and group shows from the mid-1990s to 2015. Her drawing, “A Rose,” is housed at American University’s museum in Washington, D.C. In the late 1990s, as recommended by her instructor of Tae Kwon Do, the South Korean martial art, Ms. Strelau began her competitive martial arts career. Since 2017, as taught by world champions, Ms. Strelau performs and competes in the Chinese martial arts of Shaolin Kung Fu and Wushu. An international scholarly conference scheduled her research, “Time in History: China’s Martial Arts, da Vinci’s 1519 Death, and United States Diplomacy,” for presentation in Portland, Oregon, in 2020. Ms. Strelau’s accomplishments include a Certificate of Arabic Language Proficiency (Oral and Written) awarded in 1976 by the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. She is a lifetime member of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, and a member of the American Historical Association and the Organization of American Historians.
