Ms. Kitt’s charitable work includes service on the advisory board for New York City Coalition for the Homeless’ First Step program, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She wrote “For All We Know,” a book about a young Black pre-teen patient who had pediatric AIDS that was published through Harlequin. The book’s proceeds were donated to the hospital. Ms. Kitt received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Romantic Times, and from the New York Chapter of Romance Writers of America. She received The Zora Neale Hurston Literature Award. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Kitt has been cited in the 57th, 58th and 60th editions of Who’s Who in America and the 23rd, 25th and 27th editions of Who’s Who of American Women. In successful careers of five decades, Sandra Elaine Kitt spent 30 years as the managing director of the Richard S. Perkin Collection in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Hayden Planetarium in New York, and she recently served 11 years as a library assistant in the Christoph Keller Jr. Library at the General Theological Seminary. As a librarian, Ms. Kitt has attended and presented at conferences in India, England and Berlin, took part in a librarian exchange in Russia, and lived in Munich while on assignment at the European Southern Observatory. Also a novelist, Ms. Kitt is best known as the first African American to publish with Harlequin Enterprises. After releasing her first two books, “Rites of Spring” and “Adam and Eva,” she has since authored 40 more books and novellas. Ms. Kitt’s 1995 book, “The Color of Love,” is her most acclaimed novel. The bestseller was also optioned by HBO and Lifetime. Her newest, “Winner Takes All,” the first in a trilogy, is due out in 2021.
