55 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT as a trombone and euphonium player with Larry Ridley’s Jazz Legacy Ensemble for the Staten Island Jazz Festival. Subsequently, Mr. Zawadi played for the Dizzy Gillespie Orchestra between 1963 and 1972, with Benny Golson and Art Farmer from 1969 to 1970, and for Joe Henderson between 1967 and 1974. Later on in his musical career, Mr. Zawadi played for Archie Shepp, the notable Aretha Franklin and the Illinois Jacquet Big Band. Since 1985, he has remained a trombone and euphonium player for the Clifford Jordan Big Band in New York City. Although his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Zawadi is especially proud of working with Jazzmobile in New York City, in which he served as an instructor in workshops that helped young, as well as advanced, students learn how to play trombone and music theory. With Jazzmobile, he also conducted concerts with other famous musicians in local neighborhoods. He has maintained affiliation with the Universal Jazz Coalition, the National Jazz Organization, the American Federation of Musicians and the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium, which he co-founded. Mr. Zawadi played the trombone for the Broadway show “Dancin’” between 1978 and 1982, and has recorded with such artists as Freddie Hubbard, Yussef Lateef, Sun Ra and Pepper Adams. He has been a featured artist at the International Jazz Festival at Duke University, performed with Reggie Workman’s African Brass Ensemble, and contracted the Saxophone Summit Musicians for the opening ceremony of President Clinton’s Harlem office. Mr. Zawadi received a New York City Housing Authority Performance Arts Program Recognition Award and was named Artist Deserving of Wider Recognition through Downbeat Magazine. He earned a New York City Board of Education Parent Leadership Award. Hailing from a family of musicians, Kiane Zawadi is acclaimed for being a versatile and prominent trombone and euphonium player for several ensembles and big bands throughout New York City.
