225 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Leveraging his desire to help others, Dr. Wayne K. Marshall decided to delve into the field of medicine. He received a BS in biology from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1970 and an MD from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1974 before completing a surgical internship and surgical residency at the University of Cincinnati in 1977. From there, he served the College of Medicine at the University of Virginia as a resident in anesthesiology before becoming a research fellow in 1979. At the inception of his professional career in 1980, he excelled as an assistant professor of anesthesia at Pennsylvania State University for six years before being escalated to the rank of associate professor in 1986 – holding the role through 1995. During this time, he also served as an associate clinical director of the operating room, director of pain management services and chief of the Division of Pain Management. In 1995, Dr. Marshall joined the Medical College of Virginia as a professor and chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology while also serving the MCV Hospital as medical director of operating rooms for four years. Subsequently, he served as a professor of anesthesiology at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine from 1999 to 2004. Since 2004, he has served in private practice at Riverside Anesthesia Associates in Pennsylvania. Dr. Marshall is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners, and he is board certified in pain management. Lending his expertise to creative works as well, he has contributed articles and abstracts to various medical journals. From 1987 to 1999, he sat on the editorial board of the American Journal of Anesthesiology, and from 1988 to 2004, was on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology. Notably, Dr. Marshall was the recipient of the Antarctic Service Medal from the National Science Foundation in 1980. To remain abreast of developments in the field, he has maintained affiliation with the Society of Neurosurgical Anesthesia and Critical Care, for whom he served as secretary-treasurer, vice president, president and on their board of directors.
