226 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Since the age of 13, Dr. Alix McDonald Smith desired to pursue a career in medicine. Growing up in Africa as a child, she worked with her mother with the Red Cross, in which her mother worked as a nurse and they weighed babies together. Influenced by the success of her parents, Dr. McDonald Smith moved to the United States at 26 years old to pursue higher education, as well as an excellent career. Dr. McDonald Smith first received a Bachelor of Science in pre-medical studies from Hawaii Pacific University before attaining her MD from the School of Medicine at Ross University in 2004. Serving in the United States Army Reserves during her pursuit of her medical degree, she has served to the rank of lieutenant colonel, a rank which she maintains today. Since 2008, she has also excelled in her role as a family physician with Team Health. As such, she attributes her success to her sense of dedication to her patients, noting that she treats her patients with as much respect as possible. To remain abreast of developments in the ever-changing field of medicine, Dr. McDonald Smith maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Family Physicians, who elected her a fellow, as well as the American Medical Association, among other organizations. To attest to her profound success, she received an Army Commendation Medal from the United States Army, as well as a Real Heroes Award in 2008. Looking toward the future, Dr. McDonald Smith intends to be serving her country in the United States Army and be promoted to a higher ranking, as she is currently recognized as a lieutenant colonel and revered for her expertise and humble nature.
