Next, she taught in District 28 Queens, New York, which presently consists of 50 schools, and was chosen as Teacher of the Year in 1971. She is especially proud to have developed individual teaching techniques for every student she taught. As her career progressed, Ms. Michaelian served as an assistant superintendent in the New York City school system prior to entering the field of psychology. Following her career as an educator, Ms. Michaelian served as a psychologist and partner to psychiatrist Dr. Leonard Jason. Later on, she was the CEO and hypnotist of the American Institute for Stress Relief, utilizing and teaching mental relaxation techniques and hypnosis at multiple university sites. Within the context of her private practice, she is known for asking patients what they would like to change in their lives when initiating therapy sessions. She keeps up with many former patients by receiving cards and notes, which are gratifying to her. As a former participant in the New York State Consortium for the Gifted and Talented, she also earned membership in Phi Delta Kappa due to her high grade-point average. Although her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Michaelian is especially proud of traveling across the globe, to 96 countries with her husband and two grandchildren, whom she has raised. Looking forward, she intends to continue supporting her grandchildren and husband, as well as nurture others whenever she is able. Through her work as a psychologist and extensive travel, she has concluded that, “Connections between people are the most potentially transforming forces on earth. To be what we are, and to then become who we are capable of becoming, is the only end in life. Believe in yourself, and you can make a difference.” Exhibiting several career paths, Alice Michaelian has delved into academia and psychology. Drawing upon a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in psychology from Queens College and a professional degree in administration and supervision from St. John’s University, she also attended New York University, where she studied for her doctorate.
