For ten years prior to his retirement in 2008, Dr. Ecker was Executive Vice President reporting to the Chairman of the Board. Throughout his career, Dr. Ecker was instrumental in leading the Cable Industry in the conversion of Cable Television from analog to digital and implementing the services and applicationsmade possible by the conversion. Drawing upon BEE and MSEE degrees from Georgia Tech, Dr. Ecker also holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University. Leveraging his education and experience from serving as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, in 1969, Dr. Ecker worked for Georgia Tech as Head of its Radar Branch. He was later promoted to Chief of the Radar Division and then Director of Applied Engineering. Dr. Ecker continues to serve on The Georgia Tech Foundation Board of Trustees and the External Advisory Board of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Ecker was inducted into the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia in 1999. He was recognized by the Georgia Legislature for contributions in technology and economic development, received the Joseph Mayo Petit Distinguished Service Award and was elected to the IEEE Fellows Hall of Fame. He was also presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for Innovation from Atlanta Telecom Professional in 2005. Civically engaged during his retirement, Dr. Ecker is currently active as amember of the Board of Trustees of the Marcus Autism Center, where he chairs the Innovation and Commercialization Committee. To ensure the success of future Georgia Tech students, Dr. Ecker and his wife endowed scholarships for students majoring in Biomedical Engineering and also for students on the women’s and men’s tennis teams. Dr. H. Allen Ecker joined Scientific Atlanta, Inc., in 1976 as Director of Research and Development. During his career at Scientific Atlanta, he was promoted to General Manager of the Electro Products Division, Vice President of Research and Development, Group Executive of the Telecommunications Group and Senior H.
