221 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine D r. Suresh Katakkar is a hematologist and oncologist who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood-related conditions, such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle cell anemia, leukemia and lymphoma. Dr. Katakkar helps those fighting blood diseases as the medical director and chairman of the cancer committee at the Northwest Cancer Clinic, a position he has held since 1991. Prior to working at the institution, he honed his medical skills as an intern and resident at St. Paul’s Hospital and completed residencies at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Canada from 1971 to 1972, and at Ottawa General Hospital (now the Ottawa Hospital) from 1973 to 1974. He later became a fellow in medical oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute, remaining in that position for one year before serving as a senior cancer clinical associate for the Saskatchewan Cancer Commission for three years. He opened his private practice inTucson, Ariz., in 1980, then became affiliated with the Northwest Cancer Clinic in 1991. Dr. Katakkar formerly served as chairman of the tumor board and transfusion committee at St. Mary’s Hospital and as chairman of the medical department at Northwest Hospital. Since 1989, he has taught future medical professionals as a clinical lecturer at the University of Arizona Cancer Center and has contributed articles and abstracts to professional journals in the field. He is board-certified by the European Society for Medical Oncology, the American Board of Vascular Medicine, the American Board of Forensic Medicine, the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, and the American Board of Internal Medicine. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Poona (now Savitribai Phule Pune University), a degree from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, and a Doctor of Science in physician leadership from the University of London.
