287 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine R onald Naugle is an American historian who has imparted his knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students for over 35 years at Nebraska Wesleyan University. To prepare for his career, Dr. Naugle earned a Bachelor of Arts in government and politics and a Master of Arts in American history from Purdue University in 1964 and 1966, respectively. He subsequently earned a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Kansas in 1976. Throughout his tenure at the institution, he has maintained several positions, including assistant professor, associate professor, department chairman, professor, director, chairman of the graduate program, director of the historical studies graduate program and professor emeritus of history in 2004. Additionally, he has served as the director of the Nebraska Institute, state coordinator of National History Day and member of the executive committee state coordinators. He has reached many accomplishments in his career, including receiving the Clarion Award for the film “White Man's Way” in 1987, the Frost Award for the book “Quilts and Quilt Makers” from the Smithsonian Institution in 1993, the Addison E. Sheldon Award from the Nebraska Historical Society in 1998, the Paul Beck Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award from Nebraska State Council of Social Studies and the Nebraska Sower Award from the Nebraska Humanities Council in 2003. Dr. Naugle has published the fourth edition of the History of Nebraska, which won an award for the best non-fiction work from the Nebraska Center for the Book in 2015. He remains abreast of the field as a fellow of the Center for Great Plains Studies, the International Quilt Study Center & Museum and member of the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Nebraska State Council for the Social Studies, the National Council for History Education, and the Smithsonian Institution.
