311 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine P arker Petit is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of MiMedx, a company that creates biomaterial products and bioimplants processed from human amniotic membrane and other birth tissues, human skin and bone. For over 51 years, Mr. Petit has utilized his executive skills to obtain many positions in the field, including engineer of General Dynamics Corp., engineering project manager of Lockheed-Ga. Co., president, founder and chief executive officer of Healthdyne, Inc., and founder and president of The Petit Group. Throughout his career, Mr. Petit has reached many achievements. He funded a professorial chair for “Engineering in Medicine,” endowed the Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences, helped fund the Biotechnology building which bears his name, assisted with the funding of the Science Center building which also bears his name, and made a $1.5 million commitment toward the Football Practice Complex, representing the largest gift ever made to Georgia State University athletics. Additionally, he has penned himself an author of his book entitled “Primer on Composite Materials” and is a patentee in the field. Mr. Petit is a recipient of the Humanitarian Award from La Societe Francaise de Bienfaisance in 1981, and was named an International Business fellow in 1986, Distinguished Alumni by Georgia Technology Academy in 1994, to the Technology Hall of Fame in 1994, and to the Georgia State Business School Hall of Fame in 2007. He remains abreast of the field as a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Health Industry Manufacturers Association, the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and a Master of Science in engineering mechanics at Georgia Institute of Technology in 1962 and 1964, respectively, and a Master of Business Administration fromGeorgia State University in 1973.
