64 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Before embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. Nunes pursued a formal education, beginning with his time at the College of the Holy Cross, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and religion, magna cum laude, in 1972. He subsequently continued his studies at Columbia University, achieving a Master of Fine Arts in film, cinema and video in 1981 and a Master of Philosophy in theatre in 1991. In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Nunes was previously honored with the Robert P. Bergman Award from the Cleveland Arts Prize. Attributing much of his success to his willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities, he prides himself on being the first individual in his family to achieve a collegiate education, in addition to consistently producing high-quality work in his field. In the coming years, Mr. Nunes intends to engage in more consulting work, and he looks forward to marrying his fiancée in May 2023. Possessing nearly five decades of professional experience, Grafton J. Nunes has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of the arts. Prior to retiring from professional work in 2022, he served as the president and chief executive officer of the Cleveland Institute of Art. Having joined the institution in 2010, he played an instrumental role in honoring and preserving the artistic contributions of northeastern Ohio. Mr. Nunes was also the founding dean of the School of the Arts at Emerson College from 1998 to 2010, having previously operated as the associate dean of the School of the Arts at Columbia University in New York from 1989 to 1997. Mr. Nunes originally began his career in 1975, working as an administrative assistant for the film division at Columbia University until 1979. With a keen eye for the arts and film, he was also an assistant to director Paul Schrader at Paramount Pictures between 1979 and 1980, and he co-produced the 1981 film, “The Loveless,” starring Willem Dafoe. Though he is currently retired, Mr. Nunes remains active as a board member of the Cleveland Arts Prize and the after-school arts program for inner-city youths at New Bridge. GRAFTON J.
