164 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL WORK, PUBLIC SERVICE, NONPROFIT AND HUMANITIES JAMES EADE FOUNDER, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER The Eade Foundation Menlo Park, CA After discovering chess as a teenager, James Eade spent decades making the game more accessible, first locally by organizing tournaments and then internationally by supplying sets through his nonprofit. In recent years, however, his focus has shifted to addiction and recovery work. With his own experience as a foundation, he is now putting his efforts into giving hope to the hopeless and empowering the powerless. Mr. Eade’s 2025 book, “No Blame, No Shame,” recounts his deeply personal journey from addiction to recovery. Through candid reflections and lessons learned on the chessboard, he explores the struggles of addiction, the power of community, and the many ways chess has transformed his life. The book aims to offer hope, resilience and redemption to those who need it most. Through his new book, Mr. Eade hopes to remove the stigma around talking about addiction. He believes that by sharing his personal experience, he can show others that overcoming addiction is possible and that great things are achievable. “No Blame, No Shame” marks Mr. Eade’s second book about addiction. His first book, “Freedom: Your Path to Recovery,” is a valuable resource not only for individuals recovering from addiction but also for those facing anxiety, overeating or other challenges rooted in trauma. He explains that trauma affects everyone differently, and its impact should not be judged or minimized. Defense mechanisms developed in response to childhood trauma often persist in adulthood, becoming the root cause of many struggles. Mr. Eade’s work, particularly with adult children of alcoholics and individuals who grew up in dysfunctional families, focuses on addressing these issues with compassion, avoiding blame and shame. The central message of Mr. Eade’s work is that recovery is universal, regardless of the type of addiction or struggle. He encourages individuals to acknowledge their experiences without judgment so they can recognize how past responses may no longer serve them and embrace the process of letting go. By sharing his story, he aims to foster hope and inspire
