166 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL WORK, PUBLIC SERVICE, NONPROFIT AND HUMANITIES RONALD JOHNSON FOUNDER, PRINCIPAL CONSULTING PLANNER West Georgia Planning Douglasville, GA Ronald Johnson’s inspiration to pursue a career in urban planning came from an unlikely place: the video game “SimCity 4.” As a child, the game shaped his understanding of how cities function. While others played casually, he became fascinated by how transportation networks influenced growth, how zoning shaped neighborhoods, and how infrastructure decisions determined whether communities thrived or declined. The experience sparked a lasting curiosity about the built environment and the forces shaping everyday life. That curiosity became personal when his family moved from New Jersey to Georgia. Having grown up in a compact, walkable setting, Mr. Johnson quickly noticed differences in development patterns. Instead of connected streets and nearby destinations, he encountered subdivisions separated by wide roads and limited pedestrian infrastructure. As a teenager, he began asking why communities were designed so differently and what policies produced those outcomes. The move solidified his desire to guide growth in a more intentional way. Today, Mr. Johnson is the founder and principal consulting planner of West Georgia Planning, established in 2023. Through his firm, he assists small towns west of Atlanta with updating zoning ordinances, drafting comprehensive plans, and shaping long-term development strategies. Many of these communities operate with small staffs and limited budgets, requiring practical solutions. In addition to regulatory reform, he helps local governments secure grant funding to attract investment while preserving community character and promoting sustainable growth. Mr. Johnson also serves as deputy community development director for Chattahoochee Hills, a 66-square-mile city south of Atlanta. The municipality is rural by design and prioritizes conservation, walkability and carefully managed development. His expertise lies in balancing growth with environmental stewardship while avoiding unchecked expansion common in larger cities. Mr. Johnson began his professional career in 2012 as a planning intern for Plainfield, New
