109 Millennium - Twenty-fourth Edition MEDICINE, HEALTHCARE AND WELLNESS Losing her mother so early prompted her to contemplate the future. Inspired by the many healthcare professionals who had supported her mother during her illness, Dr. Yarrington initially considered a career in nursing. However, a chance conversation with a neighbor studying pharmacy opened her eyes to a new opportunity, showing her a way to combine cutting-edge research with direct patient care. Dr. Yarrington began her career as a pharmacist at The Kroger Co. in 1995, but as she delved into the field, she found a passion for compounding, an intricate process of creating both intravenous and non-intravenous medications. This skill set led her to oncology pharmacy, where she compounded medications for cancer patients and assisted doctors in patient care. Much of Dr. Yarrington’s expertise was developed during her 23-year tenure at Trinity Health. Her work included preparing chemotherapy, developing clinical protocols, and collaborating with physicians and nurses to ensure patient safety. She is board-certified in oncology pharmacy. Following an appointment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she is now a Beacon/Willow IP Epic analyst at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, focusing on research protocol build. In this role, she is developing chemotherapy ordering protocols in the Epic electronic medical record system. Dr. Yarrington finds fulfillment in supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey. Outside of work, she operates PacaPoodles Farm LLC and Dancing Goats Dairy Farm, teaches owners of alpacas and llamas about the CAMELIDynamics method of handling and training, and volunteers at her local dog training club. Carol and her husband, Greg, have four accomplished adult children, six grandchildren and five standard poodles. Dr. Carol Prevosto Yarrington’s 30-plusyear career in oncology pharmacy is shaped by her personal experience with cancer. Her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1989 and passed away the following year. Dr. Yarrington was only 26 at the time and expecting her third child.
