19 Millennium - Twenty-fourth Edition ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT commitment to producing a comic strip for 20 years and two puzzle features for nearly as long. She has enjoyed her work and felt fulfilled by her various projects, yet above all, she considers her children her greatest achievement. Mrs. Keener has been a longstanding member of the National Cartoonists Society throughout most of her career, receiving the Tim Rosenthal Award in 2006. She served as a trustee and vice regent of the Cuyahoga-Portage chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution for nearly a decade and as the national vice chairman of the organization’s magazine for three years. She is also a member of the Society of Illustrators. Mrs. Keener’s civic engagement is as extensive as her professional career. She is currently a trustee for the Stan Hywet Hall Foundation and was a member of the women’s board at the Blossom Music Center. She is a founding member of the Toonseum in Pittsburgh and served on its board of trustees for two years. For three years, Mrs. Keener also volunteered for National Cartoonists Day and the Cartoon Appreciation Week Celebration, serving as a national representative on the board of directors and co-chairing the event. She was affiliated with the Women’s History Project in Akron, the Junior League, the Women’s Board of the Western Reserve Academy and the Akron Art Institute. Mrs. Keener earned numerous awards for her civic engagement, including being named Woman of the Year by the Women’s History Project in 1989. The Junior League of Akron recognized her with its Unsung Hero Award in 1998. For her professional achievements, she was named Visiting Artist of the Year in Heidelberg University’s Honors Program. Reflecting on her career, Mrs. Keener wants to be remembered as a good person and a capable artist. She is currently working on a book titled “Hamster Rally” for the 20th anniversary of the “Hamster Alley” cartoon strip. It will be published in August 2026. Mrs. Keener has been a dedicated artist for nearly six decades. While she has accomplished much during her profession, she is proud of her CARTOON STRIP BOOKS
