99 Millennium - Twenty-fourth Edition MEDICINE, HEALTHCARE AND WELLNESS While at Vaniam, Dr. Narcisse-Ogera designed and started a writer training program, hiring and training 28 new writers over two years. Through blind reviews, the program hired numerous women, people of color and older people looking to change careers – all people who might have otherwise struggled to get into the industry. It was a small company at the time, and she wore many hats, which enabled her to learn many aspects of the business. She takes great pride in knowing that her work protects patients and prescribers and keeps the pharmaceutical industry honest with its messaging. One memorable moment in Dr. NarcisseOgera’s career came during work with the Global Breast Cancer Team at Merck. In one meeting, she found herself butting heads with one of Merck’s executives. However, when the meeting ended, he approached her to express how much he had learned from her and to thank her for her work. This incident demonstrated that her contributions could shift clients’ thinking and that, guided by her expertise, they could better serve both patients and providers. hours per week in the hospital. Following her fellowship, she took a year to find work that felt meaningful, initially considering a return to bench research. Instead, she reconnected with colleagues who had transitioned into medical communications. Their experiences showed her a way to continue impacting patients on a broad scale. Moreover, realizing that the educational materials she once received as a physician came from companies like these made the move feel like the right decision. Dr. Narcisse-Ogera began her career in medical communications as assistant medical director of Health Science Communications before advancing to associate medical director at the same company. She then moved to ClinicalMind, where she stayed for about a year, and then took a role as medical director at ProHealth, an IPG Health Company. Over the next five years, Dr. Narcisse-Ogera ascended into various leadership positions at ProHealth, ultimately becoming vice president and medical strategy director. She next spent two years as the senior scientific director and team lead at Alligent Group, part of Envision Pharma Group, and then became executive director of scientific communications at Vaniam Group.
