She challenged that by becoming a physician herself. This mindset, along with her resilience and discipline, shaped her path and reinforced her belief that limitations should never define one’s potential. Dr. Scordakis is a general dentist at Scordakis Family Dental, a private practice in Sacramento, California, that she shares with her husband, Peter. They have owned the practice for 40 years and have now welcomed one of their sons into the business. Additionally, she is a faculty member at the University of the Pacific in California. As an instructor, Dr. Scordakis guides learners through hands-on practice in preclinic settings and supervises training in clinical sessions with patients. She also demonstrates proper dental techniques and procedures and explains the differences in standards and practices across countries. Such essential responsibilities require her to balance her time between preclinical instruction and clinical supervision. Initially working as a registered nurse, Dr. Scordakis graduated with honors from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1978, receiving the Compassion Award. She then earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Wiles University in 1982. She completed her dentistry degree at the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University. Dr. Scordakis was inspired by her uncle to pursue her goal of working in the healthcare field. Despite being discouraged from pursuing medicine due to doubts about his abilities, her uncle went on to earn a PhD, teach anatomy and physiology, and attend medical school. His perseverance taught her that anyone can achieve their goals. It also instilled in her the conviction that no challenge is insurmountable. For Dr. Scordakis, success is rooted in disciplined effort and a steadfast commitment to excellence. Through her teaching, she aims to develop not only competent dentists but also exceptional practitioners who can proudly represent the University of the Pacific.
