136 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine PROFESSOR EMERITA, CONSULTANT North Dakota State University San Francisco, CA KATHLEEN OVERIN SLOBIN, PHD D r. Kathleen Overin Slobin holds a BS in psychology from Pomona College, MFA in fine arts and painting from the California College of the Arts, MPA from California State University, Hayward, and PhD in medical sociology from the University of California San Francisco. Her doctoral dissertation explored family mediation of health care in Mali, Africa. Named professor emerita by North Dakota State University in 2007, she was inducted into the Tapestry of Diverse Talents in 2006 and holds numerous awards from the American Sociological Association and Women’s World. Dr. Slobin spent 1991 to 2007 with North Dakota State as an assistant, associate and full professor; chair of sociology-anthropology; and director of women’s studies. Previously, she served the University of California System as a staff research associate, research assistant and associate director of continuing education between 1983 and 1990. She commenced her career with Indian Valley Community College and the National Energy Foundation. Looking back on her career, Dr. Slobin enjoyed field research and teaching in Mali and Turkey, as well as photography excursions in Brazil and Africa. CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR University of Texas at Austin Austin, TX G rowing up in an academically profound family, Dr. Jonathan L. Sessler had the drive for success from a young age. He received a BS from the University of California Berkeley in 1977 and a PhD from Stanford University in 1982. Today, his achievements include 75 patents for such inventions as texaphyrin, sapphyrin and calixpyrrole. For more than 30 years, Dr. Sessler has worked at the University of Texas at Austin as a Doherty-Welch chaired professor, professor, associate professor and assistant professor. He has also taught at the Université de Paris VI in France, Yonsei University in Korea and the University of Southampton in England. He was a co-founder of Cible Inc., Pharmacyclics Inc., and Anionics Inc. Additionally, he has been an editor of Supramolecular Chemistry and ChemComm. Notably, in 2019, Dr. Sessler was the recipient of the C. David Gutsche Award, among numerous other recognitions. Dr. Sessler is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He also sits on the board of directors for the Austin Symphony and Austin Opera.
