137 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATOR, HEALTH EDUCATION CONSULTANT (RETIRED) Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District Indian River, MI M aking a career switch from nursing to education, Dr. Barbara Ellen Dotts Soffredine found a perfect medium for the two paths as a health educator. She received a BS in 1963, MS in 1968 and EdD in 2002, all from Eastern Michigan University. She is the recipient of the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Comprehensive School Health Coordinators Association. Commencing her career in 1966, Dr. Soffredine was a biology instructor at Macomb Community College for three years before spending 19 years at St. Mary Cathedral School as a science teacher. From 1989 until her retirement in 2007, she worked as a student assistance consultant, director of general education and health education coordinator for the Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District. In her roles, she wrote screenplays for the videos “Robin: A Story of Student Assistance,” “Bloodbourne Pathogens and Schools,” and “If Tomorrow Never Comes.” Dr. Soffredine is a member of the Comprehensive School Health Coordinators’ Association and American Health Care Association. She attributes her success to her husband, Russell, daughters, Tracy and Susan, and her family for their constant motivation and support. BARBARA ELLEN DOTTS SOFFREDINE, EDD DIRECTOR Morehouse Parish Library Bastrop, LA DONALD R. SMITH A certified librarian by the State of Louisiana, Donald R. Smith achieved a BA in 1968, an MA in 1972 and an MS in 1978, all from Southern Illinois University, and also obtained an MLS from the University of Missouri in 1976. He spent 1969 to 1970 with the U.S. Army, later to become elected first vice president of the Louisiana Library Association in 2019 and president-elect in 2020. Since 2016, Mr. Smith has served as the director of the Morehouse Parish Library in Bastrop, Louisiana, and since 2004, a member of the Louisiana Library Network Commission. Prior, he spent seven years as dean of information services for the University of Louisiana, and then 13 years as library dean. Over the years, he has held numerous librarian positions, including library director at Northeast Louisiana University, associate director of general services at the University of Tulsa, and education librarian at Southern Illinois University, among others. Most recently, Mr. Smith was granted the 1984 Workshop Award from the University of Oklahoma School of Library Science. He also received the 1974 Millicent C. Palmer Award from Friends of Lovejoy Library. EDUCATION
