168 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D espite her comprehensible love for animals, and especially birds, Laurian Rauen was initially discouraged from following her passion. However, she fought off the negativity and built a successful career in animal care. Since 2000, she has served as the founder and chief executive officer of Wings to New Horizons, a non-profit organization that rescues neglected and abandoned birds and gives them a home to recover. Prior to taking on this role, Ms. Rauen was a handler at the Orlando Dog Training Club for many years and a secretary at the Sunshine State Cage Bird Society. She also worked 10 seasons at the Winter Miles Training Center and worked for ERC Horizon Farms in the 1980s. Ms. Rauen sits on the board of directors and is a member of the Oviedo- Winter Springs Chamber of Commerce, who twice named her Ambassador of the Year. She attributes her success to her faith in God, as she believes He has opened doors for her she could not have managed herself. Despite many setbacks, Ms. Rauen has found comfort in her tribulations and likes to live with the mindset of “extreme honesty.” Looking ahead in her career rescuing animals, Ms. Rauen’s major goal is to raise money to build an avian and exotic animal veterinary clinic on her 11 acres of land in Florida, which has already been pre-approved by the county. Also holding dreams to host pet shop and breeder expositions, Ms. Rauen is preparing to reach out to the Auburn University Veterinary School to notify them of a place for recent graduates to come and gain firsthand experience. The best advice Ms. Rauen can offer budding veterinarians is to network. She believes making connections through research, social media, attending events and speaking with other veterinarians is the best way to learn of new and exciting opportunities in the field. Additionally, Ms. Rauen urges students to study the temperatures in which birds come from, as their diet is connected to their specific region of Earth. She says she learned by reading and doing immense research, and so should other aspiring veterinarians. LAURIAN RAUEN CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Wings to New Horizons Oviedo, FL ENTREPRENEURS
