Throughout his career, he has extensively studied thewildlife of Uganda in East Africa and the United States, includ- ing big game-human conflicts and habitats such as forest, range, cropland and aquatic ecosystems. Drawing upon a BS in forestry and wildlife, MS in wildlife and PhD in wildlife ecology, all from the University of Idaho, Dr. Hayden-Wing holds numerous certifications as a biologist and is fluent in English and upcountry Swahili. He has also been a member of a research team in the Kidepo Region of Northern Karamoja in Uganda and has also been an expert witness for legal proceedings for several states across the nation. The author of books regarding wildlife, particularly African elephants and North American elk, Dr. Hayden-Wing has also authored 58 environmental impact statements and environmental assessments in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Likewise, he has authored and edited 50 technical reports, public presentations, and one monograph regarding elephants and forests. Dr. Hayden-Wing was inspired by his family, who facilitated his deep-seated interest in the outdoors and wildlife. He cites the highlights of his career to be publishing his elephant monograph, which was funded by the National Science Foundation, Washington State University and the Uganda Wildlife Department. He is equally proud of his two illustrated books, “In the Footsteps of Elephants” from 2012 and “Never to be Repeated” from 2016, in which he describes, among other things, close encounters with African elephants and Cape buffalo. As a testament to his success, Dr. Hayden-Wing received the 1968 National Award of Merit from the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society. D r. Larry D. Hayden-Wing is a prominent wildlife ecologist who served as a former director, owner and principal scientist of Hayden-Wing Associates between 1980 and 2009, a natural resources wildlife consulting firm that worked with environmental agencies and organizations.
