99 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION history at the university between 1990 and 2001, he formerly served as an associate professor and full professor of history beginning in 1968. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Wilson was employed by the University of Alaska in Fairbanks as an assistant and associate professor between 1963 and 1967. He commenced his career at the University of South Dakota as an assistant professor in 1962. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Journalism, master’s degree in history and PhD in history, all from the University of Missouri, Dr. Wilson always had an innate interest in reading, writing and journalism. He has utilized his talent in these areas to produce several works, including the publication of numerous books within his areas of expertise. In 1964, he authored “The City Beautiful Movement in Kansas City,” with a second edition published in 1991. He also wrote “Coming of Age: Urban America, 1915-1945,” “Railroad in the Clouds: The Alaska Railroad in the Age of Steam, 1914-1945” and “Shaper of Seattle,” among others. Likewise, Dr. Wilson has contributed articles to professional journals and chapters to books, and was a book reviewer for Agricultural History, Alaska History, Colorado Magazine, the Journal of American History and the Journal of the West. Among the notable highlights of his career, Dr. Wilson notes writing “Hamilton Park: A Planned Black Community in Dallas” in 1998 as a crowning achievement. As a testament to his success in the field, Dr. Wilson received the Lewis Mumford Prize from the Society for American City and Regional Planning History in 1989 for “The City Beautiful Movement,” published the same year. The book also received Outstanding Book of the Year in architecture and urban planning from the Association of American Publishers. S upported by nearly 40 years of practiced experience in research, writing and academia, Dr. William H.
