Prior to assuming her roles at the Wisconsin State Assembly, Ms. Whitney pursued a formal education at the University of WisconsinEau Claire, where she graduated cum laude with a BA in Spanish and political science in 1990. Civically involved, Ms. Whitney has been a member of the State Coordinating Committee for the State Employees Combined Campaign since 1996, a donor for People for the American Way since 1996, a donor for the Southern Poverty Law Center since 1994 and a fundraiser for the State Employees Combined Campaign since 1992. Earlier in her career, Ms. Whitney excelled in donor and volunteer roles with various government campaigns, including for U.S. senator nominations and former President Barack Obama. In addition, she has donated to and was active in the Wisconsin Coalition Against the Death Penalty and was a monthly donor to Planned Parenthood. Likewise, she donates blood for the American Red Cross. Ms. Whitney has maintained affiliation with several organizations to remain abreast of developments in her field. She is a member of Emily’s List, the National Organization of Women and the American Civil Liberties Union. To attest to her success in the fields of government and philanthropy, she received the 2005 Bob Alesch Award from Partners in Giving with the State Employees Combined Campaign. In 2004, she was granted the Top Fundraiser Award from the Madison Walk for Diabetes, the Know Your Wisconsin State Journal Award and the Backyard Hero Award from Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin. Furthermore, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin bestowed upon her the Hannah Needham Rogers Award in 2002, having also received a Community Volunteer Award from United Way that same year. In 1995, she earned 10 SECC Fundraising Awards and a Hopebuilder Award from Habitat for Humanity. Supported by nearly 30 years of experience within the field of state government, Lori Whitney has served the Wisconsin State Assembly in Madison since 1991. Hired initially as a messenger, a role she held for four years, she went on to serve as a postal clerk from 1995 to 2003.
