31 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT part of her life, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons went on to earn a BA in sociology and anthropology from Oakland University in 1967. From there, she worked as a counselor with the Michigan State Employment Commission from 1969 to 1973, leading her to attain an MA in guidance and counseling from the University of Michigan in 1971. For more than 45 years since 1973, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons has served as an art director, painter and illustrator with Katydid Productions in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alongside her personal artistic endeavors, she has been an illustrator of book design and cover art for more than 40 books on American, European, Japanese and Bengali prose and poetry since 1978. Notably, she served as the illustrator for “A Chagall and a Tree Leaf” and “The Cemetery There Are Lovers” from 2008, as well as “The Wondrous Wee & The Finger of God” from 2010. Putting on various one-woman shows throughout the United States and abroad, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons has received grand recognition for her work. Between 1986 and 2000, six of her shows were featured in various galleries in Santa Fe and one gallery in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In addition, she has held five one-woman shows and one two-woman show in Tokyo, Japan, between 1974 and 1985. While there, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons became intrigued by the Japanese sumi-e ink wash style of painting and has utilized it in her work ever since. In addition to her eclectic profession, Ms. Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons has been an educator of 40 years. In the 1980s, she excelled as an instructor at Oakland University, Corpus Christi College, the University of Oxford and the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. Reflecting on her illustrious career, she has most enjoyed her travel opportunities, which allowed her to meet renowned international artists. Since picking up a crayon at the age of 3, Karen Ann Hargreaves-Fitzsimmons has been enamored with art. As she grew older, her mother bought her an easel and various art supplies to ensure she had enough to express her artistic vision.
