69 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION distinguished university professor of art history between 1983 and 2005. Commencing her tenure at the institution in 1972, she ascended the ranks from visiting assistant professor to associate professor and distinguished professor. Prior to these appointments, she served Columbia University as a preceptor, instructor and assistant professor between 1965 and 1974, as well as the University of California Berkeley as a teaching assistant and visiting instructor in 1964 and 1967, respectively. At Southern Methodist, the Alessandra Comini Fellowship for Travel Abroad was founded in Dr. Comini’s honor by the Meadows School of the Arts. The “Comini Lecture Series in Art History” was also named in her honor in 2005. In light of her outstanding undertakings, she was honored with the 2011 Distinguished Alumna Award from Barnard College, the 2018 Golden Honor of Merit for Services to the State of Lower Austria and the 1995 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women’s Caucus for Art. She has also been bestowed with 16 Outstanding Professor Awards from Southern Methodist and received the Grand Decoration of Honor for Services toAustria in 1990. Noteworthy for her prolific writing career, Dr. Comini authored the pioneering work in reception history, “The Changing Image of Beethoven: A Study inMythmaking” in 1987. In light of the Jubilee Year of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, her book is being translated into German as a reintroduction by the prominent Hollitzer Press in Vienna. Postretirement, Dr. Comini has authored a series of murder mystery novels regarding distinguished artists and composers. In 2019, she authored “The Mahler Mayhem” and in 2020, she debuted “The Beethoven Boomerang.” She is renowned for her three books on Egon Schiele, one of which was nominated for the National Book Award. Dr. Comini holds a BA from Barnard College, an MA from the University of California Berkeley and a PhD, “with distinction,” fromColumbia University. Drawing upon a background in multiculturalism and traveling, Dr. Alessandra Comini has been an eminent art history educator and author with more than 55 years of experience to her credit.
