275 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY S upported by more than 40 years of expertise in chemistry and academia, Ralph Eugene Spelbring is a noteworthy educator and chemist who most recently served Apex Pharmaceutical in Elkhart, Indiana, as a chemist from 1993 to 1995. Spending the majority of his career with Whitehall Laboratories in Elkhart as a chemist, he served the laboratory for nearly 20 years between 1972 and 1991. In his prominent roles, he analyzed raw materials while conducting quality control measures on the finished products. Earlier in his career, Mr. Spelbring was a chemistry teacher at LaSalle High School in South Bend, Indiana, retiring from academia in 1971. Likewise, he commenced his career as a teacher at Corydon High School in Indiana in 1968. Post-retirement from his role as a chemist, he continued teaching as a substitute teacher in Indiana and Michigan until his full retirement in 2007. Since 2011, he has served as a commercial delivery driver, in which he retrieves and transports commercial vehicles to the east of Mississippi and Ontario, Canada. Drawing upon a BA in chemistry from DePauw University from 1967, Mr. Spelbring has demonstrated versatility in his profession as a prolific author. With this sentiment, he has written letters to the editor for various periodicals including Barron’s, the Chicago Tribune and various Indiana- based newspapers. To remain abreast of developments in the field, Mr. Spelbring maintains membership with the American Chemical Society and the League of Women Voters of Elkhart County. The former treasurer and vice president of the Elkhart Jaycees, he also maintained affiliation with the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce for 20 years and the Economic Club of Michiana for 30 years. T attest to his success, Mr. Spelbring was recognized as a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in numerous Indiana districts from 1986 to 2020 and was designated as a Democratic candidate for the Elkhart County Council in 2012 and 2018.
