97 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION PROFESSOR EMERITA OF ENGLISH, WRITER Culver-Stockton College Canton, MO SECONDARY SCHOOL COUNSELOR (RETIRED) Dougherty County School System Albany, GA CAROLYN KANE, PHD A renowned writer and educator, Dr. Carolyn Kane received a BA from Hendrix College in 1966 and a PhD from the University of Arkansas in 1973. Commencing her career as a writing consultant at Hendrix College in the early 1970s, she went on to serve as an assistant professor of English at Henderson State University and at King College between 1974 and 1976. For 27 years, she excelled as a professor of English at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, attaining emerita status in 2005. While teaching at Culver-Stockton, she sponsored an award-winning literary magazine and founded a writers’ conference for high school students. Finding success as a writer, Dr. Kane was the recipient of the 1987 Best Novel Manuscript Award from the Society of Children’s Book Writers Midwest Conference and a 2014 Kirkus Reviews Best Book Award. A contributor to Peninsula Pulse and Door County Magazine, she is the author of “A Rural Pen” from 2019 and “Taking Jenny Home” from 2010, among other works. She maintains membership with the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. In her retirement, Dr. Kane currently resides in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin. E arly on, Dr. Carolyn Austin Keith was taught the value of progressing forward despite facing obstacles. She earned a BA in English and history from Mercer University, MEd in counseling from Valdosta State University, and EdD in child and youth studies from Nova Southeastern University. Supported by nearly 30 years of excellence in educational counseling, she most recently excelled as a middle school counselor for the Dougherty County School System from 1998 until retiring in 2000. Previously, she flourished in various counseling and teaching roles between 1971 and 1998. A certified family life instructor by the National Board for Certified Counselors, Dr. Keith has maintained involvement with the Dougherty County Commission on Children and Youth since 1991. Prior, she was secretary for the second district of the Georgia School Counselor Association from 1985 to 1991. She was honored as the 1993 Volunteer of the Year by the Dougherty County Council on Child Abuse, 1993 Counselor of the Year by the Georgia School Counselor Association and 1994 Student Assistance Program Counselor of the Year by the State of Georgia.
