73 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION career in 1954, she excelled as a chief accountant investigator to the Queens District Attorney – a role she held for 16 years. Concurrent to this position, she served as an educator of accounting at numerous academic institutions, including Central Commercial High School and the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she impressively developed a new business machine course and curriculum and developed articulation agreements. Joining Long Island University (LIU) Brooklyn in 1970, Dr. Fischman flourished as a professor of accounting, taxation and law between 1979 until attaining emerita status in 2019. Also acting as a self-employed accountant during her tenure at the institution, she served as the director for the Center for Accounting and Tax Education for 33 years, which offered continuing professional education to accountants and attorneys. While serving LIU, she introduced the volunteer income tax assistant IRS program and developed the 150-hour BS/MS Accounting Program, while also creating the Myrna L. Fischman Excellence in Accounting Scholarship. Dr. Fischman was cited in The CPA Journal, published by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). She served on the public relations committee and as president of the Brooklyn chapter of theNYSSCPA, and the New York chapter of the Association of Government Accountants. Furthermore, she was vice president of the Doctorate Association of New York Educators. Dr. Fischman earned the 2014 Special Award for 40 Years of Service to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program from the IRS. Prior, she re- ceived the 1997 Lifetime Achievement Award from Soroptimist International, the 1994-1995 Dr. Eman- uel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award from the NYSSCPA and the 1969 Meritorious Ser- vice Award from the Community Service Society. D rawing upon a formative interest in business, Dr. Myrna L. Fischman was influenced by her father to chase professional success. Earning a BS and MS from Baruch College in 1960 and 1964, respectively, she also attained a PhD from New York University in 1976 after accruing several years in the field.
