Returning to the U.S., Mr. Hansen was named assistant manager of the Poultry Products Division in Cargill’s Minneapolis Headquarters. In 1970, he transferred to Delaware as general manager of an Integrated Broiler Processing complex, and was elected president of Delmarva Poultry Industries Association, Inc. In 1974, Mr. Hansen moved to Atlanta to estab- lish the regional office of a newly-formed Cargill futures brokerage and derivatives consulting division called Cargill Investor Services (CIS), Inc. Four years later, he was transferred to CIS Head- quarters in Chicago and was named president of CIS in 1978. During the 20 years he served in that position, he and his team established offices in 11 overseas locations. While in Chicago, he served in several industry positions, including director of the Chicago Board of Trade, chairman of the Futures Industry Association, chairman of the National Futures Association, and honorary life- time member of the Swiss Commodities and Derivatives Association. He also served as director of CARE USA and was world chairman of financial industry fundraising efforts. Following his retirement in 1998, Mr. Hansen founded the consulting company, Viking Investor Services LLC, in Lake Forest, Illinois, which he turned over to a son after three years. He attributes his success to the support and encouragement of his wife of 61 years, Lou Ann, who always remained a beacon of light throughout his life. Together, they share three children and five grandchildren. He says great credit goes to the outstanding individuals and teams with whom he had the privilege of working. The Hansens now live in a retirement community in Naples, Florida, where they are involved in charitable and civic activities. Hansen was recruited to work for Cargill, Inc., a global food corporation based in Minneapolis and the largest privately-held company in the U.S. He joined the Commodity Marketing Division in various grain trading assignments.
